This is a delicious breakfast (or snack) bread that gets flavor from not only cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves; but also orange juice and orange liqueur. The ingredient list looks long; but it’s just all the spices, and it goes together quickly. The spices make it super tasty, and it smells wonderful coming from the oven. The original recipe is from Ina Garten’s Barefoot Contessa Back To Basics.
2 cups coarsely chopped dates (10 oz. pitted)
1/3 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter (at room temp)
¾ cup light brown sugar, packed
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
2 cups all-purpose [...]

This is wonderfully flavorful; yet it seems light, perfect for springtime. You can serve Panna Cotta with just about any sweet or fruit topping; it doesn’t need to be strawberries - but the strawberries in balsamic are terrific with it. You’ve got to try it, it doesn’t look all that sensational, but it’s delicious!
Panna Cotta is an old Italian dessert, and I think this recipe was originally from Mario Batali; however, the idea for serving it with balsamic strawberries comes from the Barefoot Contessa At Home cookbook by Ina Garten.
1 packet unflavored gelatin (2 tsps)
3 cups heavy cream
2 cups plain whole-milk yogurt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 vanilla bean
3/4 [...]

I’m not one to take the time to cook French Toast in the morning when we have company, so this casserole is great. Assemble the ingredients the night before, refrigerate, and then bake the next morning. It combines the flavors of cinammon, vanilla, raisins, and cranberries in one breakfast treat. We had scambled eggs, ham, and fresh maple syrup with it – yum. My sister-in-law brought the recipe – Thanks Laura!
1 loaf (16 oz.) cinammon bread w/raisins
3/4 cup dried cranberries
6 eggs
3 cups half-and-half
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Whipped butter
Pure maple syrup
Cube the bread, and place the bread cubes and cranberries in a greased [...]

These cupcakes are light and moist, and the cream cheese frosting makes them just plain yummy. The recipe is adapted from Barefoot Contessa Parties! by Ina Garten. We’re serving these at a Superbowl party, so we colored the frosting appropriately for our favorite team, the Green Bay Packers.
2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 extra large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinammon
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 pound carrots, grated
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped pecans
For the Frosting
3/4 pound cream cheese, softened
1/2 pound unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pound confectioners’ sugar

It drives me crazy to pick up a “simple” product like bath soaking crystals and find a list of ingredients like this: sodium sesquicarbonate, pentasodium triphosphate, aloe vera gel, fragrance, sodium lauroyl lactylate, isopropyl palmitate, mineral oil, peg-b quaternium-15, PG, blue 1, and yellow 10. What am I really going to be soaking in? So, I’m on a mission to start making our own homemade versions; they cost less and I’ll have some idea of what they’re made of.
Here’s a recipe for a simple bath soak:
2 cups baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 cup Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate)
2 tablespoons ground ginger
5 drops essential oil [...]

 Finished Vanilla Extract
We can make our own vanilla extract rather than buying the expensive little bottles of (often fake) extract at the store. All it takes are a few vanilla beans, a tall bottle, and some vodka. Once it’s made, you can keep the recipe going for years by adding more vodka and vanilla beans; and, you get an extra “ingredient” – the vanilla beans. Just slice open the bean and scrape out all the seeds, they add wonderful flavor to your baking.
Which Vanilla Beans
Madagascar vanilla beans have flavor and aromatic qualities that make them superior for making vanilla [...]
