Hot Tea was the fourth doe we purchased for the farm (we purchased her as a 3-year-old doe), and we loved having her here. She was on milk production testing as a first freshener and earned her Advanced Registry (AR) milking stars in both ADGA and AGS then.
She’s a third generation star milker (meaning both her dam and grand dam also earned their Advanced Registry milk stars) thereby earning the 3*M and 3*D designations in her name. She also earned her SG (Superior Genetics) designation.
Hot Tea is also quite beautiful in terms of dairy conformation. She has a level topline and longer body length, and it’s really not necessary to “set-up” Hot Tea, she just naturally stands beautifully with an uphill stature. In 2014, she THRILLED US by scoring a 90 in linear appraisal – that’s excellent!
I often regret that I don’t have the camera with me in the pasture, because I so frequently see her standing out there looking so stunning. Hot Tea was shown once in 2011 before we owned her and was Best of Breed, Best Udder, and Grand Champion, thereby earning her first leg toward championship status.
Her udder is deceiving, it doesn’t appear that capacious, but it is and she’s got it tucked tightly beneath her. Since we let the does forage all day in a pasture with wooded browse (meaning brambles and thorns) that’s very beneficial.
Hot Tea is also very mellow, laid back, likes people, kids easily, and is a great mom. I’d admired the goats from Old Mountain Farm for quite a while, but after acquiring Hot Tea, began to look seriously because we like her so well. Eventually, we drove to Maine (where Old Mountain Farm is located) and brought back our first herdsire (Field Mouse) and another gorgeous doeling (Taylor Quinn). The picture above is of Hot Tea as a three-year old, shortly after arriving at Bramblestone Farm. She’s a grand-daughter of the spectacular doe NC PromisedLand Lil’ BoPeep.
These two of her are when she was a youngster at Old Mountain Farm.
