Chickens really do love zucchini!
The recent rains were very welcome but caused some monster zucchini to grow in our garden – they are really much larger than I want to use for cooking.
So, what’s one to do with all those monster zucchini?
Feed them to the chickens, of course. They’ll eat them immediately and the zucchini are good for the chickens too.
Monster Zucchini
To feed zucchini to the chickens, simply split the zucchini in half down the middle, that gives the chickens access to the soft internal flesh and seeds that they like so much.
We almost never see the roosters taking a break and laying down, they’re always on the alert for predators and food. So, we were amazed to see that for zucchini, even they were willing to sit down, take a break, and enjoy.

Zucchini are good for the chickens too, the seeds act as a natural dewormer for them when they eat them.
So, if you’ve got chickens, or know someone who does, don’t feel overwhelmed by all that zucchini – just share with the chickens. Chickens love zucchini!
