Grand Champion Buck & New Buckling!

The Northeast Ohio Dairy Goat Association 2016 show was this past weekend in Wooster, Ohio and we participated. The Grand Champion Buck Collage buck show was on Friday (June 10) evening and we entered both Bramblestone Mighty Quinn and Bramblestone Celtic Quinn.

Showing is not something that we’ve done a lot of because we tend to focus more on linear appraisal and milk production, so we’re always happy (and a little surprised) when the goats do well.

This time, Celtic Quinn was first in his class, and then was eventually chosen Grand Champion Buck and Best of Breed! He’s only a senior yearling in age, so that’s really quite an accomplishment – usually the older bucks are chosen over younger bucks.

He was chosen Grand Champion Buck and Best of Breed in Ring 1 that was judged by Joe Kimmel Jr. Here’s him with his Grand Champion ribbon:

That gives him his first championship leg! Only two more to go and he’ll be a permanent champion (and much easier said than done). And here he is with his Best Of Breed ribbon:

Celtic Quinn BOB 6/13/16 And if that wasn’t enough excitement about our bucks, the newest little buckling arrived Thursday evening from Cheryle at Old Mountain Farm. Meet Old Mountain Farm Springloaded!

I really love the goats from Old Mountain Farm, they are always healthy, energetic, and conformationally correct. It’s a joy to watch them grow up. We’ve come a long way – initially I thought we’d never own a buck, now I actually enjoy having them on the farm!
